I Married an 11 Life Path (& I'm a 3...)

Updated: Mar 20, 2019

Yep, this is us!

My husband, Nick, is a double Master number: 11 Life Path and a 22 Expression. Double Whammy. That's a big deal! Anyone who has or who lives with someone who has a Master Number in their chart can attest to the quantum leap in (let's call it 'frenetic') energy compared to the single basic numbers (1-9). I mean, hey, Master numbers have important things to do and so little time!

I'm a 3 Life Path- generally scattered, yet also expressive, communicative, optimistic and enthusiastic about life (when I'm not nursing the wounds of stinging criticism-- it's a 3 thing, what can I say?). So how does a high-intensity Master 11 Life Path and an free-wheeling 3 Life Path work in a relationship?

Let me start this by saying that the Life Path, though representing what we came here to learn, is just one aspect of a complete numerology chart. It doesn't represent all of who we are. Each number in our charts have their own characteristics, yet they work to magnify, modify, tone-down, or null out other numbers. It is always best to look at the entirety of both charts to determine compatibility, rather than just one number from each. If you would like a Compatibility Reading from me, check out the 'Services' tab or click here.

(If you would like to learn how to calculate your own Life Path, check out my previous blog post).

Sooooo.... 11 & 3.

As an 11, Nick is here to learn how to utilize his gut instincts and natural abilities to uplift mankind. His is a mission that combines the 1 energy of Leadership & Independence (quite entrepreneurial) with the 2 energy of Partnership & Service; a challenging task of fusing the yang and the yin into one.

As a 3, I am here to learn how to communicate through self-expression and embrace emotional and experiential sensitivity to life. In fact, my Life Path carries a conflict, so I got a double dose of the 'difficult' aspect of this ordinarily laid-back life path. Yay. All this means is that I've had to first work through some heavy stuff so that I can emerge appreciating the all-pervasive joy of being alive (conflicts are typically successfully worked through by the early to mid-20's).

If you've noticed already: Nick's path is externally focused, mine internally; his path is about doing (especially with his 22 Expression- more on that below), mine about being;

And yet, the fusion of the masculine yang and feminine yin he is here to learn to emulate is the very definition of the 3- the 'childlike' energy.

11 and 3 actually go very well together (usually! Again, always look at a whole chart to get a full picture)! Where 11's crave harmony, 3's bring joy; where 3's crave communication, 11's bring excellent listening skills; where 11's crave creativity, 3's bring expression through writing, art, music, or dance (or all the above); where 3's crave unconventionality, 11's bring it with their way of being and approach to life! No pairing is without it's potential downsides to watch out for, however.

But first, let's have a more complete look at our Life Paths' relationship needs.

What an 11 Life Path needs from a relationship is (this is coming out of my Numerologist self, but Nick did confirm these to be tantamount and true of him):

  • Support in reaching their potential

  • Harmony (usually stemming from good communication)

  • Loyalty

  • Romance

  • Someone willing to let them exert some control over their environment (11's are sensitive to foods/smells, lights, noises, etc.)

  • Someone who is creative and/or intuitive

  • Someone with a backbone, but without being domineering

Let's compare this to what I, as a 3 Life Path, can potentially bring to a relationship:

  • Optimism and encouragement

  • Excellent communication

  • Joy and playfulness

  • Imagination

  • The ability to adapt/be flexible

  • Creativity and artistry

  • Ability to handle crisis well

We're looking pretty good here, so far. Let's look the other way around.

What a 3 Life Path needs from a relationship:

  • Support in staying focused

  • Good communication

  • Someone who can accept and stick through cycles of high-highs and low-lows

  • Someone able to laugh

  • Social interaction outside of the relationship (3's are social creatures)

  • Space and support for creativity to flow

  • Patience

What an 11 Life Path can potentially bring:

  • Inspiration

  • Understanding (beyond the surface)

  • Great listening skills

  • A desire for partnership

  • Compassion & sensitivity

  • Romance

  • Loyalty

The needs are quite complementary, except that I thrive in social settings and Nick prefers the simplicity of one-on-one interaction. The gulf isn't too wide, though. The type of 3 I am (getting more technical: I have a 12/3 Life Path (not a 30/3; meaning there's a 2 energy infusion-- and it carries a conflict, meaning I was more isolated in my youth than typical 3's), so I can easily appreciate the value, quiet and comfort of one-on-one's.

Other energies at play here are our Expressions- this describes our fundamental, innate traits and the core of our personalities (whereas Life Path represents those acquired). As I mentioned before, Nick's is the Master Builder 22. Another high-frequency, energy! The 22 plays off its lower 4 octave in that it's all about setting secure foundations through self-discipline and a strong work ethic. Similar to his 11 Life Path, it is also about uplifting humanity on the material plane. Between his 22 Expression and 11 Life Path, his mind goes a million miles a minute! I estimate he gets at least 3 new thoughts in the middle of a short sentence, so he oftentimes forgets to finish what he was saying! Fortunately, I do have 11 in my chart (it's a Growth/Gift), so I have patience, too. ;P

I, on the other hand, had a 5 Expression during the 7.5 years before we got married (this changed when I changed my name after our wedding). The 5 is adventurous, expansive, versatile, and craves constant change. So, while I was off studying in Poland, the Czech Republic, and then again in Montenegro, Nick had to be very patient. Even after graduation, I continued to travel, personally and for work. (After we moved in together, I left for a business trip in Thailand for almost a month!) Fortunately for me, he understood my thirst to get out and experience the world and this never posed any real problems for us. That doesn't always happen, especially with a 4 & 5 combination- but 22's can see the big picture better than typical 4's.

Name changes do change our energies (though only those related to our names--we cannot change our birthdays). So, after I changed my name when we got married, my 5 Expression receded to the background (it is always there, just not so strong) and my 2 Expression came to the fore. As the number of harmony, partnership, love, and cooperation, this works incredibly well with his 11 (which is a higher octave of the 2) and his 22 (which infuses a double 2 energy into its essence).

The 3 and 11 Life Paths are usually a wonderful match, full of romance, loyalty, creativity and communication. However, of all the numbers, these are the two most prone to self-doubt and depression, so if either of you particularly suffer at the end of the 3 and 11 energy spectrums, it can pose potential difficulties. Provided that the rest of your numbers meld together well, I say- Go for it!!!
